Chocolate perfection and a tiny little secret

11.25.2007

Perfection...a big claim, I know. And as for the tiny little secret, well, we'll get to that in a minute. For now I want to tell you about the most marvelous, the most delicious and decadent thing I've tasted in quite some time. On second thought, replace 'quite some time' with 'my whole life'. Seriously. Hence the title. Let's get to it, shall we?

This cake, this Double Chocolate Layer Cake, is AMAZING. This is what I brought to my extended family's Thanksgiving. And they were thankful, oh they were thankful. The cake is so moist and soft, the frosting rich and ganache-y, the results divine. And all from my kitchen! Which leads me to that tiny little secret.

I've been keeping something from you. I'm quite ashamed to admit it because it shows my utter selfishness and disregard for your own personal enjoyment. But here goes: (deep breath) there's a blog I've been reading called smitten kitchen and it's a food blog and it's wonderful and all the recipes are delicious and I've known about it for months and I didn't want you to know about it because I wanted to keep it all to myself so I could make the prize-worthy food and not you. Ok? There, I said it.

Now that I've got that off my chest, there's an excellent food blog by the name of smitten kitchen that I think you should visit! I discovered it by visiting luke's blog one day, and now I'm hooked. The food is heavenly, the pictures are gorgeous and the posts are clever, well-written and witty. You're going to love it. It's where I discovered this Double Chocolate Layer Cake, which I have already made twice. The cake is so good that I saved a piece for my sweet geno (after I had already eaten my own piece), and then ate his before he even had a chance. Sorry honey! I've made a few other recipes from smitten kitchen, I've wanted to eat the entirety of them and I have plans to make many more. And with that, I have officially added this gem of a site to my little 'links' section over there in an effort to be a better sharer. Enjoy!

Everyone is the extended family, Manes AND Pensiero! But in this case I was just trying to specify whether is was my blood relations or gene's.

I'll make you and gene another delicious cake so you can know the joy of it.

After reading your post I quickly hopped over to the blog you speak of and of course was completely...smitten. Not only is the food beautiful, but it looks scrumptious. I will have to try it myself soon. Thanks for the tip.
